Armadale and Thornlie Line passengers have been urged to make alternate travel arrangements or leave extra time to make their journey ahead of a 17-day rail disruption, which starts tomorrow evening.

The disruption, which will run from January 6 to 22, will allow important works to be carried out on railway infrastructure for Perth Stadium Station.

The last normal train service will depart from Perth to Armadale at 6.47pm, Perth to Cannington at 7.02pm and Perth to Thornlie at 7.07pm.

The last normal train service will depart from Armadale to Perth at 7.31pm and Thornlie to Perth at 7.35pm on Friday.

Rail replacement buses will be operating on both lines over the weekend, with reduced services planned to resume on the Armadale Line only from first service on Monday.

Transperth spokesman David Hynes said trains would operate at significantly reduced frequency.

“The Armadale Line will run at a 30-minute frequency on weekdays with Thornlie Line services – and some weekend and all weeknight Armadale Line services – replaced with buses,” Mr Hynes said.

“We’ve planned this latest series of works on Perth Stadium Station to coincide with the quietest time on the Transperth network – the post-Christmas period, during school and university holidays, and outside AFL season.

“Works to complete Stadium Station and the Victoria Park stow road, which will enable up to 28,000 passengers to leave the Perth Stadium within an hour of an event, cannot occur without the disruption.

“Due to the complexity of the track works, and the need for trains to switch to a different set of tracks, Armadale Line passengers will need to change trains when they pass through Carlisle Station, and the Mint Street level crossing will close on weekdays for the duration.”

Passengers have been urged for some months to plan ahead, consider alternate travel options, take a holiday or work from home and, if they must use public transport to leave extra time and prepare for delays, as trains will be limited and journey times longer.
